IRS WILL NOT ASSESS FAILURE TO FILE/PAY PENALTIES THROUGH 4/26 FOR TAXPAYERS AFFECTED BY APRIL 16 STORM [April 2007]

The Service has determined it will not assess Failure To File (FTF) and Failure To Pay (FTP) penalties through April 26, 2007, on taxpayers affected by the April 16 Nor'easter Storm. Although IRS has updated its computer systems to suppress such penalties in most cases, Business Master File (BMF) taxpayers who e-filed a balance due return between April 22 and April 26, may receive a balance due notice with FTF and/or FTP penalties.

If you or your client were affected by the April 16 Storm and the taxpayer receives a notice proposing such a penalty for this time period, call the the IRS at 866-860-4259 and explain that the taxpayer was affected by the April 16 Storm.
