COBRA SUSIDY EXTENDED
[December 2009]


On December 19, President Obama signed into law H.R. 3326, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2010. Included in the new law:

  • An unemployment insurance extension;
  • A six month extension in the maximum COBRA premium subsidy period (from 9 months to 15 months);
  • An extension in the eligibility for the subsidy for two months to job losses before Mar. 1, 2009, and
  • Transition period relief plus new notification requirements for health plan administrators.
